The pilot from Madrid did 1.000km on his BRP Sea-Doo personal watercraft in only 10 hours and 9 minutes, beating the previous time by over 12 hours.
Last July in the San Juan de San Martín de Valdeiglesias swamp (Madrid), Juan Félix Bravo managed to ride 1.000 km on his Sea-Doo personal watercraft in only 10 hours and 9 minutes! The previous record holder was the Croatian pilot Davor Hundic with a time of 23 hours and 17 minutes
Bravo´s expertise, the collaboration of his team filling up and the high performances of his 2009 Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 made this Guinness Record possible, as the pilot achieved similar times in almost all the laps, moving between 2 minutes and 21 seconds to 2 minutes and 23 seconds. Its fastest lap was 2 minutes and 19 seconds.
This way, Bravo becomes the first Spaniard to conquer a world record of these characteristics.
The Record started at 06.00h on July 3 when a lot of friends, family and neighbors from San Martín and the surrounding villages gathered in the early hours of the morning, supporting Bravo at all times. The whole of the Real Club Náutico of Madrid in San Martín de Valdeiglesias threw themselves into the audience which contributed towards Juan Félix Bravo's achievement of writing his name in golden letters on the Guinness book of Records.
Alexander Vypiraile, a London judge from Guinness, and two judges from the Spanish Nautical Federation, Alfonso Román y Manuel Barroso, were responsible for testifying this big deed.
As requested by Guinness, the track designed in San Juan de San Martín had two kilometers in length, which forced Juan Félix Bravo to make 250 laps and a total of 498 turns.
Juan Félix Bravo chose BRP's new 2009 Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 model in order to achieve this Guinness Record for various reasons:
• Power: the Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 watercraft has a Rotax 4-TEC engine of 255hp, allowing reaching a peak speed of 112km per hour during the test.
• Comfort: the Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 is the first watercraft with an integral suspension system (iS), providing an unrivaled level of comfort. It also carries the iTC system which gathers all the controls on the handlebar offering also a softer release of power.
• Stepped design hull (S³), which makes steering easier on high speeds. It is estimated that up to 3 or 4G forces were involved in the 498 turns that Juan Félix Bravo made.
• IBR™(Intelligent Brake and Reverse) system which allows for reduced fuel consumption meaning fewer stops for filling up and therefore saving precious time
The Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 watercraft easily fulfilled its objective and together with the pilot, it proved they are the perfect match for this type of challenge. It exceeded the expectations of the new record holder all through the 10 hours, and showed once again the quality and reliability of BRP's Sea-Doo products, as much as its high level of performance and innovation.
Juan Félix Bravo is the first Spanish pilot to obtain this Guinness Record and this way another sport personality of our country will be part of some historic pages in the following edition of this famous publication. After the race, the pilot stated: "I am very pleased for this achievement. I want to dedicate this to my whole family and to all who supported me. I want to thank my team for their effort; they have been here for me since the early hours of the morning. This would not have been possible without them".
Up to now many institutions have shown interest in this project: Spanish Olympic Committee, the San Martín de Valdeiglesias City Hall, (who, taking the opportunity of this record, will be commemorating the 575th anniversary of the town), the San Martín de Valdeiglesias Royal Nautical Club, the RFEM, Fuenlabrada, Benicarló, Pelayo, Motos Pacutos, BRP and many other collaborators.
