Update on the Junior Off Road Racing series for 2009

As you may or may not be aware, we have put a lot of emphasis on the junior racing category this year, and not only run our own two quad team in the colours of Team Can-Am, but also offer support in additional discounts via certain workshops for riders that compete on DS 450’s.

The year thus far has brought unprecedented success for DS 450 riders and we are working hard to maintain these results. The first race this year was in Mafeking and our own Giacomo Antiga (otherwise known as Jackie) took a great win ahead of Arra Wessels from Bloem Jet Sport. We at one stage had three Ds 450’s in the top positions, but Regart Oosthuisen of Team CDV swerved for a cow and damaged his machine.

From there the series moved on to Stanford outside Cape Town and once again, DS 450’s were the machine to beat with Regard taking a narrow win over Jackie – DS 450’s one / two again!

Then came the fast hard pack of the Caledon 400, DeWets Dorp, Free State – well once again the one /two DS 450 finish went to Regard and Jackie – sadly for many, a rule infringement at a road crossing saw 21 of the 25 finishers being excluded – this included the 1st and 2nd placed Can-Am’s and a further 3 Can-Am’s in the top ten – yes, five of the top ten over the line were Can-Am’s including our youngest rider Jamie who crossed the line in 6th!

Putting the disappointment behind us, we moved on to the 4th leg of the Championship – the RORMC just outside Naboomspruit (yes it has a new name but I cant pronounce or spell it) – and once again an awesome result with Team Can-Am’s Jackie coming home first and Regard from CDV Racing close on his heels!

This really tells us that all the hard work and effort that was put in last year is paying off for all. What is of importance is the fact that these DS 450’s that are so dominant at the moment are running very close to standard. The changing of exhaust’s, suspension and A-arms is about as far as it goes – a few bling race items and rule requirements rounds the package off. What must be said is that many hours of testing, setting up of suspension, strict maintenance and a crazy amount of physical training on behalf of the riders is an absolute requirement.

We will continue to work hard and hope to bring home more great results – next junior race is the Junior Roof in Lesotho – lets all hold thumbs!
